Marquadt moving to Welterweight

I was really surprised to see Nate Marquadt moving to Welterweight for his next fight. He has been at Middleweight as long as I have known.

 

Chris, could you ever see yourself dropping down to Welter for a fight? Seems like cutting that much weight would put you at a disadvantage against an opponent who is natural at that weight.

Ya its crazy to see Nate dropping. I dont think I can make 170. Im 6'3 and I walk around at 210-215 before camp. My last fight i was 185 and 8.5% body fat. Too much of a cut and I feel good at 185

From Pancrase to the UFC, I've always seen Nate as a Middleweight. Not sure exactly his reasoning behind the cut, but I wish him the best- as he has been in my top 3 Middleweights since I started watching MMA. Do I think he'll make weight? Yes. I think Nate is one of the more disciplined athletes in the UFC. I think the Welterweight stand-up guys are going to see some problems when they face The Great.
